Is this the right printer for you?

Who the Epson SureColor P900 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You're a photographer or fine artist printing exhibition or sale-ready work up to 17x22 inches.
  • You want the Violet channel for true gamut coverage in blues, purples, and skin tones.
  • You print on multiple papers (gloss, luster, cotton rag) and want both PK and MK loaded simultaneously.
  • You have a calibrated monitor and use ICC profiles per paper.
  • You want a desk-sized printer, not a plotter.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • It's fine if you print mostly 13x19 with the occasional 17x22.
  • It's fine if you're upgrading from a P800 or older 8-color and want the Violet channel.
  • It's fine if you'll print on roll occasionally — it supports the optional roll holder.
  • It's fine if you need both wired and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • Skip this if you need wider than 17 inches — go P700 (no, that's smaller), P5330, or P9570 for wider.
  • Skip this if you only print snapshots — a consumer photo printer is much cheaper.
  • Skip this if you don't manage color with profiles — you'll waste expensive paper.
  • Skip this if you need volume — this is a careful, fine-art machine, not a fast one.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The Epson SureColor P900 is a 17-inch desktop photo printer for photographers and fine artists who want gallery-grade prints on their own desk. The 10-color UltraChrome PRO10 pigment ink set includes Violet, which is the whole reason serious printers buy this — the violet channel meaningfully expands the gamut into blues and purples that 8-color sets can't hit. The 10-channel MicroPiezo AMC printhead handles up to 5760x1440 dpi on prints up to 17x22 inches. The thing buyers regret is ink switching: it has both Photo Black and Matte Black in the system simultaneously, which removes the swap-and-purge waste of older models, but you still need to manage media profiles carefully — a $40 sheet of cotton rag punishes a wrong profile. Pair with a calibrated monitor and ICC profiles for the papers you actually use, and this prints exhibition-quality work straight off your desk. Optional roll holder adds panoramic print capability. For exhibition work and limited-edition print sales, this is one of the lowest-cost paths to gallery-grade output Epson sells.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 2 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging Epson machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "Been using this for my photography prints and the color accuracy is really solid. Setup was straightforward and the 17-inch width gives me plenty of flexibility for different formats. No complaints so far after 8 months."
  • "Upgraded from an older inkjet and this thing handles everything I throw at it. Borderless printing on large format is a game changer for my art projects. Driver software works fine on Mac."
