Is this the right printer for you?

Who the KIP 770 is actually for

Most printer pages just tell you what a printer does. Here's the honest version: when this machine is the right choice, when it's fine, and when you should look at something else. We sell a lot of these for a reason, but the reason is not "every office."

Best fit

Pick this if...

  • You're a small architecture, engineering, or construction firm or in-house repro that prints 50-200 D-size sheets a day and wants one machine for print, copy, and scan in a tight footprint.
  • You scan red-line markups in color but print mono — the integrated KIP 720 CIS scanner captures color even though the engine prints B&W.
  • You need to fit a wide-format MFP in roughly 5 x 3 ft of floor space — at 57 x 33 in, the 770 is one of the smaller 36" MFPs on the market.
  • You print mostly bond and vellum and occasionally translucent or film up to 36" wide.
  • You want KIP System K touchscreen workflow with cloud connect to OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, SharePoint without third-party gateways.
Works fine

You'll be happy if...

  • You print up to 300 sheets a day — the engine handles it but the 6 D ppm rate means a 50-page set takes about 8-9 minutes.
  • You need scan-to-color-print — KIP Color Plus is an optional software add-on that enables color copy/print to a paired inkjet, not native to the 770.
  • You'd like rear stacking — it's available as an option, plan for the additional rear depth before install.
  • You're replacing an older Oce 7055 or HP DesignJet — operators move over to the System K touchscreen quickly.
Look elsewhere

Skip this if...

  • You need color prints in-engine — the KIP 770 is mono LED. Look at the KIP 700C, 800, or 900 Color Series instead.
  • You print more than 240 D-size sheets per hour — at 6 D ppm / 360 per hour ceiling, plan to step up to the 75 Series or higher.
  • You need wireless printing — the 770 is wired Gigabit Ethernet plus USB only.
  • You don't have 220-240V power — the 770 requires dedicated high-voltage 16A service, not standard 120V.
  • You need to scan large bound originals or rigid boards — original thickness is rated up to 1.6 mm, image quality only guaranteed under 0.25 mm.
Full specifications

Every spec, no guessing

The KIP 770 is a 36-inch monochrome wide-format multifunction system — print, copy, and scan in a single chassis built for small AEC firms, in-house repro, and design departments running 50-200 D-size sheets a day. It runs at 6 D-size pages per minute (38.5 ft/min in B&W, 360 D-size sheets per hour) at 600 x 1800 dpi, with a 2-roll deck and the integrated KIP 720 CIS color scanner that handles red-line markups even though the engine itself prints mono. The 12" KIP multi-touch screen with KIP System K Print Management Suite handles cloud connect to OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, SharePoint, and Office 365 plus standard FTP/SMB/USB destinations. Footprint is one of the more compact in the 36" MFP class at 57 x 33 x 52 inches and 390 lb on the included stand, but it does require dedicated 220-240V power. Output sizes range from 8.5" up to 36" wide, with 500-foot roll capacity (2" or 3" core) supporting bond, vellum, translucent, and film media. The thing buyers regret: assuming the optional KIP Color Plus add-on prints in color from the 770 itself — it doesn't. KIP Color Plus routes color jobs to a separately paired inkjet plotter; the 770 stays mono.

Supplies & consumables

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.

If you lease this printer through us, toner and drum are included. You never pay for supplies separately. That's usually the better deal once you add up real costs over 3 years.

What customers actually say

The 5-star consensus: "it just works"

Small sample size, high signal. The 3 verified reviewers picked this model to replace older inkjets or aging KIP machines. Common threads in the feedback:

  • "We use this in our architecture firm for large format printing and it handles 36-inch rolls without any fussing. The image quality on technical drawings is crisp and consistent, which matters when you're sending files to clients."
  • "Good workhorse machine for a small print shop. Print speed is decent and color accuracy is solid once you get the settings dialed in. My only complaint is the learning curve on the software interface took longer than I expected."
  • "Replaced an older model and this thing is a solid upgrade. Production quality is reliable day to day, maintenance isn't a headache, and support actually answers the phone when you need help troubleshooting."

FAQ

KIP 770, common questions

The questions we get asked most often on this model. If yours isn't here, call (904) 579-2558 and get an answer in about 30 seconds.

Yes, the KIP 770 ships with a starter toner cartridge. The starter toner typically yields around 200 grams, and replacement toner cartridges (e.g., KIP 770-103 Toner) are high-yield, 100% efficient, and designed for continuous print runs. When you lease through us with toner included, you never pay for toner separately.
The KIP 770 is a 36-inch monochrome wide-format MFP with a speed of 6 D-size pages per minute (360 per hour) and a 2-roll deck, while the KIP 71 Series offers either 4 or 6 D-size pages per minute (240 or 360 per hour) with 1- or 2-roll configurations. The KIP 770 has a more compact footprint (57 x 33 x 52 inches) and requires 220-240V power, whereas the KIP 71 Series is larger (63 x 28 x 59 inches) and runs on standard 120V power. Both feature integrated CIS color scanners and KIP System K touchscreens, but the KIP 770 is better suited for small AEC firms needing higher throughput in a tighter space.
Yes, the KIP 770 is ideal for small AEC firms, in-house repro, and design departments that print 50-200 D-size sheets per day. Its compact footprint (57 x 33 inches) and integrated KIP 720 CIS color scanner make it a versatile choice for small businesses needing print, copy, and scan capabilities. However, if your business requires color printing or higher volume output, consider stepping up to a commercial option like the KIP 700C, 800, or 900 Color Series.
No, the KIP 770 is a monochrome printer and does not support color printing. The integrated KIP 720 CIS scanner can capture color images, but the printer itself only produces black-and-white output. For color printing, consider alternatives like the KIP 700C, 800, or 900 Color Series.
