The Xerox VersaLink C505/S is the value configuration of the C505 platform — a desktop A4 color laser multifunction printer for workgroups of 5-15 people that need fast color print, copy, and scan but don't need fax or a hard drive out of the box. It runs at 45 ppm in both color and black-and-white, copies at 45 cpm, scans two-sided at 73 ipm (b&w) or 55 ipm (color) via the 100-sheet single-pass DADF, and is rated for a 120,000-page monthly duty cycle (Xerox recommends staying around 10,000 pages/month). Standard paper capacity is 700 sheets across the 550-sheet Tray 1 and 150-sheet bypass; expandable to 3,250 sheets with up to four extra 550-sheet feeders or the 2,000-sheet High-Capacity Feeder. The 7-inch color touchscreen with ConnectKey Apps handles scan-to-cloud, 1-Touch workflows, and 100+ App Gallery apps. Print resolution is 1200 x 2400 dpi — sharper than the C405 (600 x 600 enhanced) for graphics-heavy work. Where the /S differs from the /X: no fax, no 320 GB HDD, no caster base — pick /S if you don't need any of those, or step up to /X for about $400 more. Connectivity is Gigabit Ethernet plus USB 3.0 standard; Wi-Fi and NFC are an optional kit. The thing buyers regret: choosing /S and then needing fax six months in — the kit add costs more than the price difference would have.
