  • You don't have a Pantone workflow yet — the device ships with the spot table but you'll want a designer who actually uses it.
  • You want wireless — optional Wi-Fi kit (497K16750) adds it.

The Xerox VersaLink C9000/DT is the top of the VersaLink single-function color line — a 55 ppm A3 color laser printer for corporate marketing, design, and in-house print teams running 20,000-50,000 pages a month. It prints up to 55 ppm color and black on letter (long-edge feed), 40 ppm on legal, 32 ppm on 11x17 A3, and 27 ppm on 12x18 SRA3. First page out is 10 seconds black / 10.5 seconds color, resolution is 1200 x 2400 dpi, and it's rated for a 270,000-page monthly duty cycle (Xerox recommends up to 30,000). Standard capacity is 1,140 sheets (100-sheet bypass + two 520-sheet trays, the /DT designation), expandable to 5,140. Stock support is the heaviest in the VersaLink line: bypass simplex up to 130 lb. cover (350 gsm), duplex up to 110 lb. cover (300 gsm). The C9000 ships with a 320 GB HDD standard (the only VersaLink that does), 4 GB memory, 1.6 GHz dual-core processor, and a PANTONE-approved spot color table with a custom spot editor — features the C7000/C8000 don't get standard. The 5-inch capacitive touchscreen and ConnectKey app platform are shared with the rest of the family. The thing buyers regret: ordering it for letter-only workflows. If you don't need A3 and PANTONE matching, the C600 is the same speed at a third the footprint and half the price.

Toner, yields, and what to actually reorder

The #1 question we get on this printer is "which toner do I buy?" Short answer: you have two cartridge options and a drum. Standard yield TN830 covers roughly 1,200 pages. High yield TN830XL covers roughly 4,500 pages and is the better value for most offices. Pick XL unless you print very little.

The drum unit (DR810) is separate and usually lasts 15,000 to 30,000 pages before it needs replacing. At a typical small office volume, expect to change it once every 2 to 4 years.
